FLCG HOST WORLD-WIDE VISITORS
The Flathead Lake Cherry Growers, inc. cooperative entertained visitors from Mongolia, Canada, Thailand, Kenya, Swaziland, Croatia, and the United States, as part of the Association for International Agricultural and Extension Education (AIAEE) annual conference held this past May in Polson. Marty Frick, from MSU’s Agricultural Education Program, co-hosted the conference.

A tour of Flathead Lake cherry country was on the conference agenda. The visitors were welcomed with refreshments at the Yellow Bay Clubhouse where Sharon Myers and Virginia Hankins, local orchardists, participated in an informal discussion. The group then went next door to the Hankins’ orchard where the particulars of growing cherries in Montana prompted many questions from the group.

AIAEE’s objectives are “to serve as a worldwide catalyst in bringing the collective expertise of agricultural and Extension educators to bear on the problems of human resource and agricultural development.” The organization promotes agricultural education in public schools worldwide, research and evaluation studies, programs for agricultural curriculum development and teaching methods, human resource management programs, youth development, to name just a few of their projects. Each year the conference takes place in a different country.

Pictures can be obtained by contacting us in the CONTACT US main menu item and asking for AIAEE pictures.
