Flathead Cherry Growers, Flathead Lake Montana Tart Cherries
Tart Cherries are the smaller, more vibrant red colored cherries and are a favorite for making cherry pies. Because they are not as sweet as the Dark Sweet cherry, more sugar is usually added when making them into pies, jams and jellys.

Flathead Cherry Growers, Flathead Lake Montana Sweet Cherries--Tart Cherries
Dark Sweet cherries are sweeter than Tart cherries. Tart cherries are usually smaller and more vibrant red in color than the mahogany color the Sweet cherry exhibits when perfectly ripe.

Flathead Cherry Growers, Flathead Lake Montana Cherries Grow In Clusters
Cherries grow in clusters and the "leaf to cherry ratio" is very important. Proper pruning is very important to obtain more and bigger leaves which, in turn, help produce larger cherries. Trees with a low "leaf to cherry ratio" usually produce smaller fruit.
