Members of The Flathead Lake Cherry Growers, Inc., as well as the public, attended the historic 80th Annual Grower's meeting held at the Yellow Bay Community Center in Yellow Bay, Montana. Information specific to growing Flathead Sweet Cherries was presented by multiple experts in their fields.

Dr. Matt Whiting, Associate Professor Dept. of Horticulture at Washington State University, was the guest speaker at this year's Annual Grower's Meeting. Dr. Whiting is a world renown lecturer and consultant to the cherry industry.

Gary and Susan Snow, owners of Tabletree Montana LLC, updated FLCG growers regarding the new sweet cherry juicing facility being constructed at the Finley Point warehouse. The facility will use Tabletree's exclusive juice process to take advantage of Flathead cherries that do not qualify for the Fresh Market.

On March 21, 2016, at the Yellow Bay Community Center, The Flathead Lake Cherry Growers, Inc. and Table Tree Montana LLC juice company announced a joint project to build a sweet cherry juicing line at FLCG's Finley Point Warehouse. Growers and Media were invited to the Press Conference. Attendees had a chance to sample sweet cherry juice after the presentation.

2007 saw two sisters share the honors of Montana Cherry Queen. Rebbeca and Brittany Tiensvold were selected to represent the 2007 cherry harvest and all the activities associated with this year's crop in the Flathead Valley.

Thomas W. Harris planted the first cherry trees in Montana in 1866 in the Bitterroot Valley, but by 1920 orchardists there gave up in favor of Cattle ranching. Climate was found to be much more favorable for cherries in the Flathead Lake Region.

Harry Chapman settled in the flathead valley in 1893. His ranch, on the east shore, was named "Bear Dance Ranch", and it was one of the oldest cherry orchards in the valley.

History was made when the first train carload of lambert cherries left the original packing house in kalispell, Montana. Today, fresh picked cherries are consolidated for shipment at Finley Point, just north of Polson.

Originally, cherries were picked into wooden boxes that held about 20 lbs. of fresh cherries. Growers would place their names on their boxes. Today cherries are picked into plastic boxes holding 30 lbs. and transferred to bins holding 300 lbs.
