2007 saw two sisters share the honors of Montana Cherry Queen. Rebbeca and Brittany Tiensvold were selected to represent the 2007 cherry harvest and all the activities associated with this year's crop in the Flathead Valley. |

First Cherry Trees In Montana
Thomas W. Harris planted the first cherry trees in Montana in 1866 in the Bitterroot Valley, but by 1920 orchardists there gave up in favor of Cattle ranching. Climate was found to be much more favorable for cherries in the Flathead Lake Region. |

One Of The Earliest Orchards
Harry Chapman settled in the flathead valley in 1893. His ranch, on the east shore, was named "Bear Dance Ranch", and it was one of the oldest cherry orchards in the valley. |

First Train Carload Of Lamberts
History was made when the first train carload of lambert cherries left the original packing house in kalispell, Montana. Today, fresh picked cherries are consolidated for shipment at Finley Point, just north of Polson. |

Antique Cherry Picking Boxes
Originally, cherries were picked into wooden boxes that held about 20 lbs. of fresh cherries. Growers would place their names on their boxes. Today cherries are picked into plastic boxes holding 30 lbs. and transferred to bins holding 300 lbs. |
